日本では、1970 年代にさかのぼるスーパー戦隊 TV 番組の長い歴史があります。
しかし、アメリカにはパワーレンジャーというスーパー戦隊もありました。
歴史はさほど古くなく、放送開始は1993年。
Did you watch Super Sentai when you were a kid?
In Japan, there is a long history of Super Sentai TV programs dating back to the 1970s.
However, in America, we also had a version of Super Sentai called Power Rangers.
It's history isn't as old and only began broadcasting in 1993.
放送は 1993 年に開始されましたが、シリーズがどのようにしてアメリカに伝わったかについては、はるかに長い歴史があります。

Although broadcasting started in 1993, there is a much longer history on how the series came to America.
In fact, it starts in the late 1970's.
Marvel Comics and Stan Lee became interested in Super Sentai.
Stan Lee made a teal with Toei Company which resulted in the creation of the Japanese Spider-Man series.
Stan Lee then tried to sell the Sun Vulcan series to American television broadcasters, but none were interested in it.

In the 80's another man from America became interested in bringing Super Sentai to American Television.
His name is Haim Saban, and he is an Israeli-American media proprietor.
On one of his business trips to Japan, in his hotel, he saw the show Choudenshi Bioman.
Fascinated by the concept, he created a pilot episode for Bioman in 1985.
He didn't have much success until 1992.

A small TV broadcasting company was looking to create a block of children's television and Super Sentai was exactly what they wanted.
It also happened that the president of Fox at the time was familiar with the Japanese Super Sentai due to working with Marvel Comics in the past.

In an effort to adapt the Japanese show to an American audience, and do it as cheaply as possibly, Saban Entertainment and Bandai worked together.
Much of the Japanese footage was used in the American production, specifically fight scenes and monster scenes.
Any scene that featured masked characters was acceptable to use.
For the remainder, an American cast was selected to play the characters and create the drama.
The show was officially titled "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", which evokes the imagine of transformation.
Finally, the name "Zord" was created to describe the various giant robots used in the series.
The 1993 American adaptation used Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger as it's source material.

The series has created a $6 billion dollar toy market along with almost anything else that can be marketed and sold to kids.

In 1993, I was 6 years old.
This was the perfect age for Power Rangers.
I remember watching it for the first time, and being so fascinated by it.
The characters were cool, the action was fun, and the monsters and robots were cool!
I became hooked and was a huge fan.
My favorite was the Green Ranger and I even had his dragon dagger!

Power Rangers was a cultural phenomenon when I was a kid.
Of course, it also had a really cool opening theme song!
