Today is the last day of the year!
In Japan, this is a very special day.
Families like to come together and enjoy food and drinks.
Many special TV programs are aired.
アメリカにも似たような伝統がありますが、少し違います。
大晦日には、友達と大きなパーティーを開き、新年を迎えます。
In America, we have a similar tradition, but it’s a little different.
On New Year’s Eve, we like to have a big party with friends and ring in the New Year.
アルコールや通常の飲み物と一緒に呼ばれることが多いため、小さなオードブルやフィンガー フードを用意することがよくあります。
Often, we will have small hors d'oeuvres or finger foods as they are commonly called along with alcohol or regular drinks.
テレビでは、ニューヨークのタイムズ スクエアの生中継があります。
時計が真夜中に近づくと、タイム スクエアのボールがゆっくりと落ち始めます。
時計が12時を打つまで、全員がカウントダウンします。
真夜中にキスをする人もいれば、ハグをする人もいて、「明けましておめでとう」と歓声が上がります。
On TV there is live coverage of Times Square in New York.
As the clock approaches midnight, the ball in Time Square slowly begins to drop.
Everyone counts down until the clock strikes 12.
At midnight some people like to kiss, others like to hug, there is a lot of cheering and saying, “Happy New Year!”
残念ながら、アメリカでは 1 月 1 日だけが祝日なので、ほとんどの人は 1 月 2 日から仕事に戻ります。
Unfortunately, January 1st is a national holiday in America, so most people will be back to work on January 2nd.
