We talked about Chili's song Baby Back Ribs and how it went on to be a cultural phenomenon.
I mentioned how, while recording, there was one singer who was used specifically for the bass verse, which consisted of two words, barbeque and sauce.

マッコイは2012年9月8日、うっ血性心不全のため59歳で亡くなりました。

The singer's name is William B. “Willie” McCoy, or his stage name, Wolf Johnson.
McCoy passed away on September 8th, 2012, from congestive heart failure at the age of 59.
He was a professional vocalist who performed with many groups throughout his life, but his legacy will always be the Chili's commercial, and he was proud of it.

His cooking hobby in particular became a part of who he was.

Perhaps it was this love that helped him bring such passion to the Chili's song.
As a way of honoring McCoy's life and love for barbeque, a special funeral service was held for him.
However, this is where the story takes a turn for the unbelievable!
アメリカのテレビ局TLCが新番組「史上最高の葬儀」のスポンサーとなり、マッコイの功績をたたえるバーベキューをテーマにした葬儀が執り行われた。
この式典では、バーベキュー用のスモーカーの形をした棺を運びながらジングルを歌うマッコイの棺担ぎ、ベイビーバックリブの巨大な小道具を持ったダンサー、走り回る生きた豚、リブをディップするためのバーベキューソースの噴水などが行われた。
ほとんどの人にとっては非常識に聞こえるかもしれないが、ここはアメリカだ。
マッコイの人生と功績は間違いなく最大限にたたえられ、その葬儀に出席した人や目撃した人は誰もそれを忘れることはないだろう。
Sponsored by TLC, an American TV network, for their new television show, "Best Funeral Ever," a barbeque-themed funeral would be given to McCoy to celebrate his legacy.
This celebration included McCoy's pallbearers singing the jingle as they carried out the casket, which was shaped like a BBQ smoker, dancers with huge props of baby back ribs, live pigs running around, and a fountain of barbeque sauce for dipping ribs in.
This might sound insane to most people, but this is America.
McCoy's life and legacy were definitely celebrated to the fullest, and nobody who attended or witnessed that funeral will ever forget it.
