中学生の頃、アメリカではアニメはまだかなりニッチなものでした。
しかし、80年代後半から、アメリカではアニメの人気が高まりました。
地元のアニメコンベンションが毎年開催されるようになりました。
年上のアニメファンが、あるアニメを私に勧めてくれたのを覚えています。
そのアニメを見る機会はありませんでしたが、名前は今でも覚えています。
今日は、一緒に「無責任艦長タイラー」についてもっと調べてみましょう！
While in junior high school, anime was still quite niche in America.
However, since the late 80s, its popularity has been on the rise in America.
Local anime conventions would begin to be held yearly.
I remember an older anime fan recommending one particular anime to me.
Although I never had the chance to watch it, I still remember the name.
Today, let's find out more about The Irresponsible Captain Tylor together!
無責任艦長タイラーは、1993年1月25日から1993年7月19日までテレビ東京で放映された全26話のアニメです。
ただし、漫画ではなく、タイラー艦長は「宇宙一無責任男」というライトノベルに基づいています。
この作品は、1989年1月25日から1996年1月25日まで吉岡仁志によって執筆され、全9巻と6つのサイドストーリーに及びます。
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor is a 26-episode anime that aired from January 25, 1993, to July 19, 1993, on TV Tokyo.
However, instead of being based on a manga, Captain Tylor is based on a light novel by the name of The Most Irresponsible Man in Space.
It was written by Hitoshi Yoshioka from January 25, 1989, to January 25, 1996, and spanned 9 volumes and 6 side stories.
この物語は、人生に対して無頓着な態度をとり、しばしば自分が遭遇する危険に対してよそよそしい態度をとる若者、タイラーを追う。
未来を舞台に、タイラーは惑星連合宇宙軍に偶然入り込み、人質争いを場当たり的に解決し、引退した提督を救出する。
これがきっかけで、彼は駆逐艦の指揮を任される。
物語が進むにつれ、タイラーは運の良さで幸運の連続を続け、ますます危険な状況から生き延びて切り抜ける。
これがシリーズの喜劇的な背景であり、最後には観客はタイラーは本当にバカなのか、それとも天才なのかと疑問に思うことになる。
The story follows Tylor, a young man with a nonchalant attitude toward life and an air of aloofness towards the danger he often finds himself in.
Taking place in the future, Tylor stumbles into the United Planets Space Force and haphazardly resolves a hostage dispute and saves a retired admiral.
This leads him to be put in command of a destroyer spacecraft.
As the story progresses, Tylor, through sheer luck, manages to continue a streak of good luck, which sees him survive and come out on top of increasingly dangerous situations.
This is the comedic backdrop of the series, and by the end, the audience is left to wonder, is Tylor really an idiot or a genius?
タイラー自身は、1962 年の映画「日本の無責任時代」の主人公である平平均という人物をモデルにしているようです。
その映画では、植木等が主演し、無能そうに見えながらも常にトップに立つ人物を演じました。
Tylor himself seems to be based on the character Hitoshi Taira, the main protagonist of the 1962 film Japan's Irresponsible Age.
That film starred Hitoshi Ueki playing a character who appeared to be incompetent but always managed to make it out on top.
比較的無名であるにもかかわらず、「無責任艦長タイラー」には少数ながら熱心なファンがいるようです。
オリジナルのアニメシリーズに続いて、1994年10月1日から1996年8月1日まで、10話構成のOVAシリーズが制作されました。
さらに、2017年7月11日から2017年9月26日まで、「無責任銀河☆タイラー」というタイトルの12話構成のアニメシリーズが制作されました。
ライトノベルも1996年以降、着実にリリースされてきました。
Despite being relatively obscure, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor seems to have a small but dedicated fanbase.
The original anime series was followed up with a 10-part OVA series from October 1, 1994, to August 1, 1996.
An additional 12-episode anime series was produced from July 11, 2017, to September 26, 2017, titled The Irresponsible Galaxy☆Tylor.
The light novels have also seen a steady stream of releases from 1996 onward.
キャプテン・タイラーは、いつか観てみたい作品のひとつです。
本当に好きになるかどうかはわかりませんが、観るべき作品だと感じています。
10代の頃から心の中に溜まっている好奇心を満たしたいです。

Captain Tyler is one of those shows that I would enjoy watching someday.
I don't know if I would actually like it or not, but I feel it's something I need to see.
I want to satisfy this curiosity that has built up inside of me since my teenage days.
