This is Nick from Tree House English!
The 1990s were quite possibly the best time to be an anime fan in America.
It was still a niche hobby and was dominated by small groups and communities of dedicated fans.
Many classic anime films, OVAs, and shows started to make their way into America, with Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon paving the way for more mainstream success.
However, many niche titles were also being brought over to varying success.
Akira was a smash hit, which opened the gates to other more adult-oriented films to be localized.
Today, let's talk about one such film.
スプリガンは、たかしげひろしが執筆し、皆川亮二がイラストを描いた漫画です。
1989年から1996年にかけて、週刊少年サンデーと少年サンデー増刊に掲載されました。
この漫画は11巻にまとめられ、さまざまなエディションが利用可能でした。
しかし、北米では名前がストライカーにローカライズされ、最初の3巻のみが利用可能でした。
2022年にようやくシリーズが元のタイトルで再リリースされ、すべての巻が利用可能になりました。
Spriggan is a manga written by Hiroshi Takashige and illustrated by Ryōji Minagawa.
It first appeared in the pages of Weekly Shōnen Sunday and Shōnen Sunday Zōkan from 1989 to 1996.
The manga was collected into 11 volumes with various editions available.
However, in North America, the name was localized to Striker, and only the first 3 volumes were available.
It was only in 2022 that the series was finally re-released with the original name and all volumes available.
物語は冷戦の最後の年に始まります。
高度な技術を備えた古代文明が発見されました。
以前の文明の大量破壊兵器は、さまざまな国や軍事組織が自分たちの利益を追求するために求めていました。
これはまさに以前の文明が警告していたものであり、彼ら自身の破滅につながりました。

The story begins during the last year of the Cold War.
An ancient civilization with advanced technology was discovered.
Weapons of mass destruction from the former civilization were being sought after by various countries and military organizations to further their own interests.
This is exactly what the previous civilization warned against and which led to their own destruction.
One group, using the discovered technology, is setting out to stop the other countries from disrupting the balance of power and leading the world into oblivion.
漫画は未完だったにもかかわらず、アメリカとヨーロッパの両方で成功を収めました。
これが、アニメ化のローカライズと配給の需要につながりました。
スタジオ4°Cはノアの箱舟の物語を映画化し、1998年に日本で公開されました。
AKIRAの作者である大友克洋がプロジェクトを監修し、東宝が映画を配給しました。
この映画は2001年にアメリカで限定劇場公開され、2002年にDVDがリリースされました。
The manga, despite being incomplete, saw success in both America and Europe.
This led to a demand for the anime adaptation to be localized and distributed.
Studio 4°C adapted the Noah's Ark story into a film, which was released in Japan in 1998.
Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Akira, supervised the project, with Toho distributing the film.
The film saw a limited theatrical release in America in 2001 and a DVD release in 2002.
正直に言うと、私は漫画を読んだことも映画を見たこともありませんでした。
これは私がずっと見たいと思っていたアニメシリーズでしたが、機会がありませんでした。
数週間前、ブックオフをブラウズしていたときに、棚に漫画のコピーがあるのを見つけました。
記憶が脳に駆け巡り、今まで見たことのないアニメになぜか懐かしさを感じました。
日本語を簡単に読むことができれば、その場で本を購入したでしょう！
今年のクリスマスにはサンタさんにアメリカからコピーを持ってきてもらうように頼まなくちゃ。
To be honest, I never read the manga or saw the film.
This was an anime series I always wanted to see but never had the opportunity to.
It was only a few weeks ago, while browsing through Book Off, that I saw a copy of the manga on the shelf.
A rush of memories rushed through my brain, and I somehow felt nostalgic for an anime I had never seen before.
If I could read Japanese easily, I would have purchased the book on the spot!
I'll have to ask Santa to bring me a copy from America this Christmas.
11月の素敵な夜は、ようやく落ち着いてこのずっと待ち望んでいたアニメを見るのに最高の時間になるかもしれない。
Maybe a nice November night would be the perfect time to finally settle down and watch this long overdue anime.
