Today, let me tell you about Love Hina, the Christmas Special!
ラブひなは、1998年10月から2001年10月まで週刊少年マガジンで連載されていたロマンチックコメディ漫画です。
このシリーズは講談社から14巻まで出版されています。
このシリーズは、後に魔法先生ネギま!を手掛けることになる赤松健によって制作されました。
Love Hina is a romantic comedy manga that was originally published between October 1998 and October 2001 within Weekly Shōnen Magazine.
The series was compiled into 14 volumes published by Kodansha.
The series was created by Ken Akamatsu, who would go on to create Mahō Sensei Negima afterwards.
ラブひなは世界中で大ヒットとなり、2000年4月から9月にかけてジーベック社によって全24話のアニメが制作されました。
このアニメも大ヒットし、アニメOVAと並行して2本のテレビスペシャルが放映されました。
そのテレビスペシャルの1つが、本日の話題のクリスマスエピソードです。
Love Hina proved to be a major hit around the world, and from April to September 2000, a 24-episode anime was produced by Xebeck.
The anime also saw great success, which led to two TV specials airing alongside an anime OVA.
One of those TV specials is the Christmas episode of today's topic.
ラブひなの物語は、浦島景太郎という青年を中心に展開します。
幼少期、景太郎はある女の子と東京大学に一緒に入学するという約束をしました。
景太郎はその女の子の名前を思い出せませんが、大学に合格したら彼女を見つけたいと願っています。
残念ながら景太郎はあまり頭が良くなく、2度も合格に失敗しています。
さらに、両親は経済的な援助をやめることに決め、彼は祖母の家に移らざるを得なくなります。
The story of Love Hina revolves around a young man named Keitarō Urashima.
In his childhood, he made a promise to a girl that they would enter the University of Tokyo together.
Although Keitarō can't remember the girl's name, he hopes to find her after getting accepted into the university.
Unfortunately, Keitarō isn't very smart and has failed twice to get accepted.
Furthermore, his parents have decided to stop supporting him financially, and he is forced to move into his grandmother's house.
祖母の家に到着すると、そこが女子寮に変わっていることを知る。
入居者たちは、祖母が彼にアパートの名義を与え、彼を新しい管理人にするまで、景太郎がそこに住むことを拒否する。
入居者の一人は、同じく東京大学に入学しようとしているナルという女の子。
景太郎が幼い頃に約束した相手が彼女であることがほのめかされる。
こうしてラブひなの物語と、それに続く狂気の恋愛が始まる。
After arriving at his grandmother's house, he learns that it has been transformed into a female-only dormitory.
The tenants refuse to allow Keitarō to live there until his grandmother gives him the title of the apartment, making him the new manager.
One of the tenants is a girl named Naru, who is also attempting to enter the University of Tokyo.
It's hinted at that she is the one whom Keitarō made the childhood promise to.
Thus begins the story of Love Hina and the crazy romance that ensues.
クリスマススペシャルは2000年12月25日に放送されました。
ストーリーは、クリスマスイブを一人で過ごし、自己憐憫に浸る景太郎です。
彼は、クリスマスイブに愛を告白すると魔法の力が得られるという伝説を聞きます。
景太郎はナルに愛を告白することを決意しますが、エピソード全体を通して多くの誤解が生じます。
The Christmas special was aired on December 25th, 2000.
The plot involves Keitarō spending Christmas Eve alone, wallowing in his self-pity.
He hears of a legend that says if you confess your love on Christmas Eve, it will have magical powers.
Keitarō is determined to confess his love to Naru, but throughout the episode many misunderstandings happen.
ラブひなについて話すのは少し恥ずかしいです。ましてや、中学生の頃にこのアニメのファンだったと告白するのはもっと恥ずかしいです。
私は京太郎のように恋に憧れ、特別な人と出会いたいと思っていました。
子供の頃、このアニメは私が望んでいたすべてを体現していましたが、大人になって振り返ると、かなり未熟でした。
今ではこのアニメを見ることはできないと思います。
しかし、子供の頃、それは私にとって大きな喜びと希望の源でした。
I'm a little embarrassed to talk about Love Hina, and more so to admit that I was a fan of this show as a junior high school student.
I yearned to find love, like Keitarō, and wanted to meet someone special.
As a kid, the series embodied everything that I wanted, but as an adult looking back, it's rather immature.
I don't think I could watch this anime today.
However, as a kid, it was a big source of joy and hope for me.
