このイメージは、テレビでサマーキャンプを何年も見て形成されてきました。
今日は、私のイメージを形成するのに役立つショーについてお話したいと思います。

Many people often have an image of American summer camps in their mind.
As an American, I too have an idealized image of what summer camp is like.
This image has been formed over years of seeing summer camps on TV.
Today, I want to tell you about a show that helped form my image.
Let's get ready to salute our shorts.
「Salute Your Shorts」は、アメリカの子供向けホームコメディです。
1991年7月4日から1992年9月12日までニコロデオンネットワークで放送された。
この番組は、番組のクリエイターであるスティーブ・スラフキンが共同執筆した 1986 年の書籍「Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp」に基づいています。
"Salute Your Shorts" was an American sitcom designed for kids.
It aired from July 4, 1991, to September 12, 1992, on the Nickelodeon network.
The show is based on the 1986 book "Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp" which was co-written by the show's creator, Steve Slavkin.
「Salute Your Shorts」は、架空のサマーキャンプ、キャンプ・アナワナにいる10代のキャンパーたちのグループについての作品です。
十代のキャンプ参加者は、厳格で偉そうなカウンセラーに対して反抗的で、しばしばトラブルにつながります。

"Salute Your Shorts" is about a group of teenage campers at the fictional summer camp, Camp Anawanna.
As teenagers, the campers are rebellious against their strict and bossy counselor which often leads to trouble.
There is also a heavy emphasis on the relationships between characters.
For example, in season 1, the main character is Michael Stein who is often butting heads with the camp bully, Robert "Bobby" Budnick.
The two are usually vying for the attention of the female campers.
「ショーツに敬礼」という用語は、キャンプのいたずらから来ています。
このいたずらには、子供たちのグループが他人の下着を盗もうとすることが含まれていました。

The term "salute your shorts" comes from the camp prank.
The prank involves a group of kids trying to steal another person's underwear.
The stolen underwear is then hoisted up a flagpole where all campers will salute it.
The main character falls victim to this prank in the first episode.
この番組は 2 シーズンしか放送されませんでしたが、若い視聴者の間で大きな成功を収めました。

Although only airing for two seasons, the show saw big success with young viewers.
It was the second highest-rated cable television series with children aged 6–11 at the start of its second season in 1992.

観てから25年以上、いや30年以上経ちますが、今でも楽しかった記憶があります。

I was very young when the show was on TV, but I somehow found myself interested in watching it.
Although it's been over 25 or maybe even 30 years since I've seen it, I still recall enjoying it.
I'd like to watch it again someday to see if it stands the test of time.
