ご存知の方も多いと思いますが、日本のクリスマスはアメリカのクリスマスとは大きく異なります。
日本人の大多数はキリスト教徒であると自認していないが、アメリカでは人口の約73％がキリスト教徒である。
アメリカは世界で最も多くのクリスチャン人口を抱えています。
As many of you know, Christmas in Japan is vastly different than Christmas in America.
The majority of Japanese don't identify as Christians whereas in America about 73% of the population is Christian.
America has the largest Christian population in the world!
アメリカでクリスマスの時期に気づくのは、イエスの誕生に関する描写がたくさんあることです。
これはキリスト降誕の場面と呼ばれ、通常は小さなジオラマで表示されますが、大きなジオラマも存在します。
ジオラマは、羊飼い、羊、天使に囲まれた飼い葉桶の近くの納屋でのキリストの誕生を描いています。
3 賢者とそのラクダに加えて、ロバと牛が含まれることがよくあります。
最後に、ベツレヘムの星も含まれるものもあります。
One thing you'll notice in America around Christmas time are many depictions of the birth of Jesus.
This is called a nativity scene and is usually displayed using small dioramas, however, large ones exist, too.
The dioramas depict the birth of Christ in a barn near a manger surrounded by shepherds, sheep, and angels.
A donkey and an Ox are often included along with the 3 Magi and their camels.
Finally, some include the Star of Bethlehem.
キリスト降誕のシーンはアメリカに限定されたものではなく、世界中の多くの国で見られます。
オーストラリアでは夏にもかかわらず、独自のキリスト降誕のシーンがあり、カンガルーやコアラが登場することもあります。
カナダ、チェコ、フィリピンにも独自のキリスト降誕のシーンがあり、非常に人気があります。

Nativity scenes are not exclusive to America and can be seen in many countries around the world.
Despite it being summer in Australia, they have their own nativity scenes, sometimes even featuring kangaroos and koalas.
Canada, Czech, and the Philippines also have their own nativity scenes which are very popular.
Spain has a very peculiar nativity scene in which an additional figure is added.
This figure is called a Caganer and depicts a man defecating.
As strange as that sounds, the Caganer has become the most popular piece of the nativity scene.
In 2005, Barcelona displayed a nativity scene without the Caganer only to be met by public outcry.
アメリカでもキリスト降誕の場面をめぐる論争がないわけではない。
アメリカは自由な国ですが、それでも守らなければならないルールがたくさんあります。
たとえば、アメリカのキリスト降誕のシーンは、非宗教的なシンボルも表示しない限り、公共の土地に表示することはできません。
America is also not without its controversies surrounding nativity scenes.
Although America is a free country, there are still many rules which must be abided by.
For example, nativity scenes in America can not be displayed on public land unless they also display non-religious symbols.
アメリカで育った私は、毎年、キリスト降誕の場面が人々の家や教会の外に展示されるのを見ていました。
しかし、私にとって宗教にはまったく興味がありませんでした。
私はキリスト降誕のシーンの目的が何なのか全く理解できず、伝統的なクリスマスオーナメントの楽しくてカラフルな装飾の方がずっと好きでした。
私が10代の頃、地元の教会ではいつもキリスト降誕の場面が大きな人物とともに展示されていました。
そのうちの1つは赤子のイエスでした。
毎年、子供たちのグループはいつも赤ん坊のイエスの人形を盗んでどこかに隠しました。
ついに教会は激怒し、監視カメラを設置しました。
Growing up in America, I would see nativity scenes every year displayed outside of peoples houses or churches.
However, religion was not something that held any interest for me.
I never understood what the purpose of the nativity scene was and much more preferred the happy and colorful decorations of traditional Christmas ornaments.
In my teens, the local church would always display a nativity scene with large figures.
One of the figures was of baby Jesus.
Each year a group of kids would always steal the baby Jesus figure and hide it somewhere.
Finally, the church got so angry that they set up security cameras.
宗教に対してどのような感情を抱いていても、自分が一番幸せになれる方法でクリスマスを楽しんでいただければ幸いです。
