We are almost finished with our discussion on various Muppet characters.
Let's look at a pair of Muppets who have been apart of Sesame Street from the very beginning.

Bert and Ernie were designed to be best friends who are completely different.
This was designed to teach kids that we can still be friends with others who are different than us.
Bert, the yellow Muppet, has a personality that is more grounded and serious.
Ernie, the orange Muppet, has a much more open-minded personality.
セサミストリートのパイロットエピソードでは、基本的にバートとアーニーだけが登場するマペットでした。
試写会では、2人のシーンが子供視聴者の中で最高得点を記録し、マペットをメインキャラクターに起用することが決定した。
During the pilot episode of Sesame Street Bert and Ernie were basically the only Muppets to appear.
In test screenings, the scenes with the two of them scored the highest amongst child viewers, and it was then decided to include Muppets as the main characters.

These claims have been denied each time by the Sesame Street company.
As a children's show, sexual orientation is not relevant to the characters and has never been given any thought.
Despite this, many people in the gay community see Bert and Ernie as icons.
Sesame Streets official stance is that they are simply best friends.
最後に、1970年にアーニーは「Rubber Ducky」というタイトルの曲を演奏しました。
これは、彼のお気に入りのお風呂用おもちゃである黄色いゴム製のアヒルのバラードです。

Finally, in 1970, Ernie performed a song titled "Rubber Ducky".
This was a ballad to his favorite bath toy, a yellow rubber duck.
The song peaked at number 16 on the top 100 list in September of that year.
