今月はマペットについて深く掘り下げるつもりはありませんでしたが、冬休みの間、ジム・ヘンソンの作品に非常に興味を持っていました。
子供の頃、私はセサミストリートをあまり見ませんでしたが、ほとんどのアメリカ人がそうであるように、私は他のマペットと一緒にキャラクターに精通していました。

Today is the final day of the Muppet extravaganza!
I didn't intend to dive deep into Muppets this month, but I found myself very interested in the works of Jim Henson over the winter vacation.
As a kid, I didn't really watch Sesame Street, but as most Americans are, I was familiar with the characters, along with other Muppets.
Jim Henson has really left his mark on American culture, and the amount of creative ventures he was involved in is staggering.
Let's take a look at what might be Mr. Henson's most personal and famous creation.
Today we are going to talk about Kermit the Frog.

Kermit made his debut in May of 1955 on the premier of Henson's first production Sam and Friends.
In this form, Kermit was more like a lizard, and hadn't quite become the frog that we know and love.
Sam and Friends was a short 5 minute sketch comedy that would lead into the popular Tonight Show.
It wasn't until 1969 on the television special Hey, Cinderella! that we would see Kermit become the frog we recognize today.

From 1969 Kermit would debut and become a part of the regular cast on Sesame Street.
Unlike the other characters, Jim Henson never sold the rights to Kermit, and thus always remained a part of Henson's company.
This allowed Kermit flexibility to appear on numerous other shows, including the popular Muppet Show.
On the Muppet Show, Kermit acted as a kind of leader for the other Muppets.
He was the one character who kept everyone together and attempted to organize all the different characters into a functioning production.
