This is Nick from Tree House English!
20代半ばの頃、私は手塚治虫に夢中になりました。
アメリカではちょっとしたマンガブームが起きていて、彼の作品の多くは英語で出版されました。
この頃、あまり知られていない彼の作品を発見しました。
この物語は、愛を感じることができない少年についてですが、彼はこれを克服する方法を学ばなければなりません。
これはアポロンの歌です！
When I was in my mid 20's I became fascinated with Osamu Tezuka.
There was somewhat of a manga boom happening in America and many of his works were published in English.
It was during this time that I discovered one of his lesser-known works.
The story is about a boy who is incapable of feeling love, but he must learn how to overcome this!
This is Apollo's Song!
アポロの歌は、1970 年 4 月から 1970 年 11 月まで週刊少年キングのページに掲載されました。
時は日本の歴史の過渡期でした。
1960 年代後半、多くの学生活動家が学校暴動という形で政府に反乱を起こしました。
日本でも性教育はタブー視されていたが、1970年代に突如変わった。
Apollo's song was published in the pages of Weekly Shōnen King from April, 1970 to November 1970.
This was during a transitional time in Japanese history.
In the late 1960s, many student activists were rebelling against the government in the form of school riots.
Sex education was also a taboo subject in Japan, but in the 1970s it suddenly changed.
手塚はこれらの影響を受けて『アポロンの歌を』書きました。
1970 年代のマンガでは性的な物語やイメージが描かれるようになり、手塚はこの機会を利用してマンガを通じて愛とセックスを探求したいと考えました。
この暴動は、マンガの主人公のインスピレーションを刺激しました。
社会の暗い雰囲気と不安定さが、主人公の落ち込んだ態度に反映されていました。
Tezuka wrote Apollo's Song with these influences on his mind.
Manga of the 1970s began portraying sexual stories and imagery and Tezuka wanted to use this opportunity to explore love and sex through manga.
The riots fueled the inspiration for the manga's main character.
The dark mood and instability in society was reflected in the main character's depressed attitude.
この物語は、望まれぬ子供だった省吾という少年の物語です。
愛することができない彼の母親は、省吾が愛や優しさを目の当たりにするたびに暴力を振るっていた。
これは省吾に精神的な影響を与え、後に彼は精神病院に入院しました。
ショック療法を受けた省吾は幽体離脱し、知恵の女神アテナと出会う。
アテナは、彼が愛の本当の意味を理解できるまで、時間と空間を超えて永遠に愛を経験することを彼に強制します。
省吾が恋に落ちるたびに、それを引き裂く出来事が起こる。
The story follows a boy named Shogo who was an unintended child.
His mother, not capable of love would beat Shogo anytime he witnessed love or tenderness.
This had psychological repercussions on Shogo and he is later admitted to a mental institution.
After undergoing shock therapy, Shogo has an out-of-body experience and meets the goddess of wisdom, Athena.
Athena forces him to experience love across time and space for eternity until he can understand the true meaning of love.
Every time Shogo falls in love an event transpires to tear it apart.
私は手塚治虫のマンガをたくさん読んできましたが、そのほとんどが素晴らしいものでした。
特にこの話は私に深いレベルで影響を与えました。
他の作品に比べて知名度は低いですが、ぜひ読んでみてください。
今度実家に行くときはこの漫画を持って日本に帰りたいです。
I have read many of Tezuka's manga and most of them are amazing.
This story in particular has affected me on a deep level.
Although it's not as famous as his other works I highly recommend giving it a read.
The next time I visit my parent's house I'd like to bring this manga back to Japan with me.
