Today, I want to share another project from the Marvel Toei licensing agreement.

Many people are familiar with Spider-Man, especially now with the popularity of Marvel movies.
However, premiering in July of 1978, Toei created a Spider-Man series for Japanese audiences.

It starred Shinji Todō as Yamashiro Takuya/Spider-Man.
The story was loosely based off of the Marvel comics character, but had many differences.
For example, instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider, Japanese Spider-Man gained his power from an alien race.
Of course his iconic costume stayed the same.

Japanese Spider-Man proved to be very popular, and ran for 41 episodes, concluding in March of 1979.

In March of 2009 Marvel began broadcasting the show with English subtitles once a week on their website.
