前回はバスケットボールとマーチ マッドネス イベントについてお話しました。
ただ、あまり興味がないので書くのが難しかったです。
今回は私が楽しんでいるバスケットボールイベントについてお話したいと思います！
このイベントは、これまでに生み出された最もクールなバスケットボールのテクニックに関するものです。
これがスラムダンクコンテストだ！
Last time I talked about basketball and the March Madness event.
However, it was difficult for me to write about it because I'm not that interested in it.
This time I want to tell you about a basketball event that I enjoy!
This event is about the coolest basketball technique ever created!
This is the Slam Dunk Contest!
正式には AT&T スラムダンク コンテストとして知られるこれは、NBA オールスター ウィークエンド中に開催される毎年恒例のイベントです。
このイベントは、1976 年にアメリカバスケットボール協会 (ABA) によってハーフタイム ショーのために創設されました。
もともと、ABA は放送の視聴数を獲得するのに苦労しており、コンテストはより多くの視聴者を引き付けるための仕掛けとして考えられました。
このイベントは成功し、翌年NBAとABAが合併した後、NBAに引き継がれた。
Officially known as the AT&T Slam Dunk Contest, this is a yearly event that takes place during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
The event was created in 1976 by the American Basketball Association (ABA) for their halftime show.
Originally, the ABA was struggling with getting views for their broadcasting and the contest was conceived as a gimmick to draw in more viewers.
The event was a success and was carried over into the NBA the following year after the merger between the NBA and ABA.
ダンクコンテストは数年間休止していたが、1984年のNBAオールスターウィークエンドでメインイベントとして復活した。
1980 年代はバスケットボールにとってエキサイティングな時代で、特に 80 年代後半はマイケル ジョーダンが活躍しました。
1987年と1988年、マイケル・ジョーダンはコンテストで連続優勝したが、論争がなかったわけではない。

The dunk contest went on hiatus for a few years only to return as a main event during the NBA All-Star Weekend in 1984.
The 1980s was an exciting time for basketball, particularly in the late 80s with Michael Jordan.
In 1987 and 1988 Michael Jordan won back-to-back contests but not without controversies.
Jordan finished the contest in 1988 with a perfect score of 50 points, but many claim there was collusion between the judges.
The event took place in Chicago with one judge being a Chicago native and another representing Chicago for the National Football League.
Jordan was competing against Dominique Wilkins who was awarded 45 points for an outstanding performance.
The low score caused a lot of speculation and was one of the biggest controversies in the event until 2020.
ダンクコンテストはNBAの定番となっており、多くのファンが毎年楽しみにしているイベントとなっている。
私のようにバスケットボールに詳しくない人でも楽しめるコンテストです。

The dunk contest has become a fixture of the NBA and something many fans look forward to each year.
Even those who aren't familiar with basketball, like me, can enjoy the contest.
It's full of excitement and each player gives a wonderful performance!
I highly recommend looking up previous years' contests on YouTube.
Sometimes I can't believe the feats that these athletes can perform.
Are they really human?
It must be the shoes!
