ビジネスの世界では、会計年度の終わりです。
しかし、私にとっては誕生日です！！
また1年、太陽の周りを回り、少し年をとりました。
今年は、大好きな曲をシェアしたいと思います！
これはマンボNo.5です。
We've finally made it; the last day of March has arrived!
Do you know what that means?
In the business world, it's the end of the fiscal year.
However, for me, it's my birthday!!
Another year around the sun and a little bit older.
This year, I want to share a song that I love!
This is Mambo No. 5.
マンボ No. 5 の起源は、キューバのミュージシャン、ダマソ・ペレス・プラドが最初にリリースした 1949 年にまで遡ります。
その後、1999 年にルー・ベガによって、デビュー アルバム「A Little Bit of Mambo」の最初のシングルとして生まれ変わりました。
The origins of Mambo No. 5 can be traced back to 1949 when the song was originally released by Cuban musician Dámaso Pérez Prado.
It was then transformed by Lou Bega in 1999 as his first single for his debut album, A Little Bit of Mambo.
さて、この曲についてさらに深く掘り下げる前に、ルー・ベガという人物についてお話ししなければなりません。
彼には興味深い経歴があり、父親はウガンダ出身、母親はイタリア出身ですが、ベガ自身はミュンヘン生まれでドイツ人です。

Now, before we dive deeper into this song, we have to talk about Lou Bega as a person.
He has an interesting background, and his father was from Uganda and his mother from Italy, but Bega himself was born in Munich, making him German.
As a child, Bega would travel to Miami, which has a large Cuban population, allowing him to experience mambo music.
This set him on his path to releasing Mambo No. 5 and bringing mambo music into the spotlight once again.
1999 年 4 月に最初のアルバムがリリースされると、Mambo No. 5 はヨーロッパ全土で大ヒットしました。
このアルバムはすぐに世界中に広まり、オーストラリアや北米でも大ヒットしました。
1999 年 11 月には、米国の Billboard Hot 100 リストで 3 位にランクインしました。
Upon release of his first album in April 1999, Mambo No. 5 became a smash hit across Europe.
It quickly made its way around the world, becoming a smash hit in Australia and North America as well.
By November of 1999 it had hit the number 3 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 list.
ベガがすべての歌詞を書き、オリジナルのダマソ・ペレス・プラド版から短いリフをサンプリングしただけだったにもかかわらず、彼の遺産管理団体は著作権料を求めて訴訟を起こし、7年にわたる法廷闘争が始まった。
ドイツの裁判所は最終的にプラドの遺産管理団体の側に立って、ベガは著作権侵害の申し立てに該当しない短いリフをサンプリングしただけだったが、遺産管理団体と著作権料の合意を求めたことはなかったと主張した。
この結果、この曲はプラドとベガの共作であると宣言された。
Despite Bega writing all of the lyrics and only sampling small riffs from the original Dámaso Pérez Prado version, his estate sued for royalties, beginning a 7-year-long court battle.
The German courts ultimately sided with Prado's estate, claiming that although Bega only sampled short riffs, which didn't fall under copyright claim, he never sought a royalty agreement with the estate.
This resulted in the song being declared co-written by Prado and Bega.

この曲を私に教えてくれたのは姉です。彼女の名前はエリカで、この曲はその名前を使っています。
姉はこのCDを購入し、よく車の中で聴いていました。

For me, this song is a nostalgic trip back to 1999 when life was nothing but joy.
My sister is the one who introduced me to this song, as her name is Erica, and the song makes use of that name.
She purchased the CD and would often play it in her car.
Eventually, the CD became mine, and I would listen to it from start to finish.
Most people aren't aware, but the CD contains a handful of, in my opinion, fun and upbeat tracks!
It really gets me hyped!
