今日はハロウィンの定番お菓子をご紹介します。
Halloween is fast approaching!
Today, I want to introduce you to traditional Halloween candy.
アメリカでは、とうもろこしはわが国にとって重要な作物です。
実際、アメリカは全作物の中で最も多くのトウモロコシを栽培しています。
In America, corn is an important crop for our country.
In fact, America grows the most corn out of all its crops.
1880 年代後半に、とうもろこしや鶏の飼料に似たキャンディーが発明されました。
このため、もともとは鶏の飼料と呼ばれていました。
In the late 1880s a candy was invented that looked like corn or chicken feed.
Because of this, it was originally called chicken feed.
その秋の色と、秋に収穫されるトウモロコシとの関連から、キャンディー コーンとして知られるようになりました。
1950 年代までは、ハロウィンとは関係がありませんでした。
しかし、ハロウィーンとキャンディーがアメリカで同義語になり始めたのはこの時期でした.
これにより、キャンディー コーンがハロウィーンの良いキャンディーとして脚光を浴びるようになる広告が生まれました。
Because of its fall colors, and association with corn, harvested in fall, it became known as candy corn.
Up until the 1950s, it wasn't associated with Halloween.
However, it was during this time that Halloween and candy started to become synonymous in America.
This led to advertisements pushing candy corn into the spotlight as a good Halloween candy.
今日、誰もがキャンディーコーンをハロウィーンのキャンディーと考えています。

Nowadays, everyone thinks of candy corn as Halloween candy.
But the truth is, although its a popular Halloween candy, most kids dislike it.

When I was a kid, I hated getting candy corn.
Even now as an adult, I don't like it.
