However, as this war was waging, another pizza empire was being born.
Today, we will talk about the youngest to enter the ranks of the pizza emperors.

Papa John's was founded in 1984 by John Schnatter in Jefferson, Indiana.
John began selling pizza out of a broom closet in his father's tavern.
He had sold his 1971 Camaro Z28 to raise funds to buy a used pizza oven.
After a year of working out of his father's tavern, he was able to raise enough money to open his shop next door.
During this time, Papa John's also created their secret weapon.
The thing that set Papa John's apart from the other pizza restaurants was their special dipping sauce.
It became a popular item, especially when eating the crust of the pizza.

Using technology to their advantage, they were the first major pizza chain to offer online ordering to all U.S. customers in 2002.

Papa John's has always felt a little more aggressive than the other pizza chains.
The founder, John Schnatter, had taken an active role in promoting the business, and his face was used in many advertising campaigns.
They had partnered with many sporting events as well, including the National Football League (American Football).
John Schnatter was never shy when speaking his mind or giving his personal opinions on many topics.

Papa John's introduced the Shaq-a-Roni pizza dedicated to Shaquille O'Neal.

As I have mentioned many times, I'm not a fan of any of these pizza chain restaurants.
I prefer small shops with more traditionally made pizzas.
