2月11日は日本の建国記念日です。
この日は、紀元前660年に日本の初代天皇である神武天皇が即位した日です。
アメリカにも似たような日がありますが、歴史はまったく異なります。
今日は、アメリカの独立記念日である7月4日についてお話ししたいと思います。
On February 11th, Japan has its National Foundation Day.
This is the day the first Emperor of Japan, Jimmu, was crowned in 660 BC.
America also has a similar day, but a very different history.
Today I want to tell you about July 4th, America's Independence Day!
独立記念日は7月4日とも呼ばれ、アメリカの連邦祝日です。
1776年のこの日、第2回大陸会議で独立宣言が批准されました。
この文書には、13の植民地はもはやイギリス国王ジョージ3世の支配下ではなく、統一された自由な独立国家であると記されていました。
これが、私たちが知っているアメリカ合衆国の始まりでした。
Independence Day, also known as July 4th is an American federal holiday.
On this day, in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was ratified by the Second Continental Congress.
The document stated that the 13 colonies were no longer under the control of King George III of Britain and were united, free, and independent states.
This marked the beginning of the United States as we know it.
7 月 4 日の祝日には、パレード、バーベキュー、家族の集まり、野球の試合、花火がよく見られます。
家族は、この祝日を利用して家族の集まりやピクニックを楽しむかもしれません。
パレードは午前中から正午まで行われ、その後バーベキューやパーティーが開かれることがよくあります。

During the 4th of July holiday, parades, barbeques, family gatherings, baseball games, and fireworks are most often seen.
Families may use the holiday as an opportunity to have family gatherings or picnics.
Often parades will be held in the morning until noon where after barbeques and parties will be held.
Military bases will fire one shot for each state known as the "salute to the Union" at noon.
7 月 4 日を祝う最も人気のある方法の 1 つは花火です。

One of the most popular ways to celebrate the 4th of July is with fireworks.
Large fireworks shows will be organized by local governments as well as private celebrations.
Many Americans enjoy setting off fireworks on their property after a day of barbeque and beer!
私にとって、7 月 4 日はいつもバーベキューの日でした。
友達と一緒においしい料理を楽しみ、ビールを飲み、時には葉巻を吸って過ごしたことを覚えています。
私は決して愛国心が強すぎるわけではなく、政府に対しても非常に批判的ですが、楽しいお祝いは好きです。

For me, July 4th was always a day of barbeque.
I remember spending time with my friends enjoying delicious food together, drinking a beer, and sometimes smoking a cigar.
I was never overly patriotic and remain very critical of the government, but I do enjoy a good celebration!
