Perhaps it was a black magic woman that had cast a spell on you.

To my surprise, Black Magic Woman is a song that was originally released by the band Fleetwood Mac in 1968.
However, the version that I, and most other people, are familiar with is the 1970 version released by Santana on his first album, Abraxas.
The Santa version is more of a medley that mixes jazz, Latin, and Hungarian inspirations, clocking in at 5 minutes and 24 seconds compared to the blues-inspired Fleetwood Mac version, which is 2 minutes and 48 seconds.

The reason for Santa's version having such a longer length is due to the band adding another covered song to the end titled "Gypsy Queen.".

Although we are talking about the song Black Magic Woman, it's hard to separate it from the album Abraxas.
It was the first single for the album and was one of Santana's biggest hits of his entire career.
It peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States in 1971.
Abraxas is consistently included in best album lists and was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in their National Recording Registry in 2015.

For me, the cover art of the album and the song Black Magic Woman go hand-in-hand.
The album art was created by Mati Klarwein, a German-French painter who had relocated to New York City.
Santana noticed his artwork, titled Annunciation, in a magazine and reached out to him to feature it as their album cover.
Klarwein would go on to design album covers for many other popular musicians as well.

It conjures imagery of witches and curses, but the actual song is way more psychedelic in nature.
Despite this, I'll take any chance I can get to talk about it, because I really enjoy this song.
I used to listen to the Abraxas album on a record player a friend had given me while relaxing in my room.
Although I wouldn't want to be cursed, I also wouldn't mind falling in love with a black magic woman, as long as she's kind.
