今回は最愛の児童文学作家、ドクター・スースから。
Today, we have another American classic Christmas TV special to discuss!
This time it is from the beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss.
1965 年のチャーリー ブラウン クリスマス スペシャルの成功の後、CBS は別の成功したクリスマス ヒットを探していました。
監督のチャック・ジョーンズはドクター・スースに、1957 年の子供向けの本「グリンチがクリスマスを盗んだ方法」をホリデー TV スペシャルに適応させることについてアプローチしました。
二人は過去に一緒に仕事をしていたが、ドクター・スースは再びアニメーションで仕事をすることに消極的だった。

After the success of the 1965 Charlie Brown Christmas Special, CBS was looking for another successful Christmas hit.
Director Chuck Jones approached Dr. Seuss about adapting his 1957 children's book, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, into a holiday TV Special.
Although the two had worked together in the past, Dr. Seuss was reluctant to work in animation again.
Eventually he was convinced to work on the project, and MGM had allotted them a $315,000 budget.
11 ～ 14 か月の制作期間を経て、スペシャルは最終的に完成し、1966 年 12 月 18 日に最初に放映されました。
スペシャルはすぐに成功し、長年の視聴の伝統となりました。
After an 11 to 14 month production time, the special was finally completed and originally aired on December 18th, 1966.
The special was an immediate success and became a perennial viewing tradition.

実際、このスペシャルでは「You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch」というタイトルの曲も取り上げられ、この曲は後に定番のホリデー ソングにもなりました。
Not only was it a success due to the story and humor, but also the music contributed greatly.
In fact, the special featured a song titled You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, which went on to become a classic holiday song as well.
